A minor fire was reported Wednesday at the PPG plant in Springdale.

PPG Industries’ safety department is investigating the cause of a fire Wednesday at its Springdale plant along Colfax Street.

Firefighters from the borough as well as Arnold and East Deer responded to the call for smoke and fire in the vents at the industrial coating and resin facility around 3 p.m.

Allegheny Valley Regional Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Bruno Moretti said no injuries were reported, and crews had the situation under control very quickly.

“Whatever it was, they found it real quick and took care of it,” Moretti said.

Plant workers were evacuated and then let back in the building in about an hour.

Emergency responders were packing up hoses and equipment around 4 p.m.

PPG spokesman Mark Silvey said the damage was limited and normal operations at the plant have resumed. Officials are looking into what caused the fire.

No further information was available.
